Executive Function Coaching — With or Without Academic Support
Our executive function coaching helps school-age students, college students, and adults develop practical systems for school, college, work, and everyday life.
Coaching can address:
- Planning, prioritization, and organization
- Time management and getting started on tasks
- Breaking assignments and long-term projects into manageable steps
- Assignment management, homework routines, and study strategies
- Follow-through, self-monitoring, and accountability
- Building routines that support greater independence
We help learners practice strategies they can use between sessions and increasingly apply on their own. Academic instruction and homework support may be incorporated when appropriate to the learner’s needs and the professional’s expertise. The EF rates above apply to coaching alone or coaching that incorporates academic support when appropriate. We confirm the scope and exact rate before services begin.
Why Our Coaches’ Backgrounds Matter
A degree or the title “executive function coach” alone doesn’t establish relevant expertise. At Themba Tutors, we look at the professional’s training, demonstrated experience, and ability to understand the demands facing the learner. Our EF professionals include experienced educators, learning specialists, special educators, and allied-health professionals. Many hold master’s degrees or advanced credentials; others bring comparable advanced professional experience.
We match learners with professionals whose backgrounds fit their age, goals, academic demands, and support needs—including experience with ADHD and learning differences when relevant.
When comparing providers, consider:
- What relevant training and experience does the coach have?
- Have they supported learners with similar needs?
- Do they understand both executive functioning and the learner’s academic or everyday demands?
- How will they help the learner develop skills and independence between sessions?
Why Families Choose Themba for Executive Function Coaching
Executive function coaching can vary considerably depending on the background and experience of the professional providing the service. At Themba Tutors, we place particular emphasis on the education, professional experience, specialization, and ability of the coach to understand the whole learner— not simply the student’s planner or to-do list.
Our executive function professionals may include:
- Experienced teachers and educators
- Special educators
- Learning specialists
- Master’s-level professionals
- Professionals with advanced graduate training
- Allied-health and education professionals
- Specialists experienced with ADHD and learning differences
- Professionals with extensive experience supporting middle school, high school, college, and adult learners
- Highly specialized and doctorate-level professionals when a learner requires a higher level of expertise
Many of our EF professionals have spent years working directly with students in educational, learning-support, special-education, or related professional settings before providing executive function coaching.
Executive Function Coaching Should Go Beyond Organization
Our work can address:
- Organization
- Planning and prioritization
- Time management
- Task initiation
- Assignment management
- Homework systems
- Study strategies
- Long-term projects
- Breaking large assignments into manageable steps
- Follow-through
- Self-monitoring
- Academic independence
- Developing routines and systems that the learner can eventually use independently
The goal is not simply to keep a student organized from week to week. The larger goal is to help the learner build systems, strategies, and independence that can transfer across school, college, work, and everyday life.
Experienced Professionals at a Competitive EF Coaching Price Point
Remote Executive Function Coaching starts at $165/hour.
Our rates reflect the professional background, experience, and specialization of the person working with the learner. Families comparing executive function coaching options may find similar hourly rates elsewhere. An important question is therefore not simply:
“What does EF coaching cost?”
but also:
“Who will actually be working with my child?”
At Themba Tutors, families may be matched with experienced educators, learning specialists, special educators, master’s-level professionals, allied-health professionals, and other highly qualified specialists. We believe the professional’s background matters because executive functioning often overlaps with academic demands, learning differences, motivation, study skills, independence, and the increasing expectations of middle school, high school, college, and adulthood.
This is one of the central differences we want families to understand when comparing providers.
Optional Accountability Check-Ins
Brief remote check-ins between regular sessions reinforce planning, accountability, and follow-through.

- Divide the bank into structured 5-, 10-, 15-, or 20-minute check-ins.
- Available only to clients participating in ongoing tutoring or executive function services.
This is an optional add-on, separate from regular remote EF coaching, which starts at $165/hour.

What Should Parents Look for in an Executive Function Coach?
Price is only one consideration when comparing executive function coaching services. Parents may also want to ask:
- What is the coach’s educational background?
- Has the coach worked directly with students before?
- Does the coach understand academic demands as well as executive functioning?
- Does the coach have experience with the student’s age group?
- Does the coach have experience with ADHD or learning differences when relevant?
- Is the coach teaching transferable systems or simply helping the student complete today’s assignments?
- Is the professional individually matched to the learner?
- Can the family review the coach’s professional background before beginning?
- Can the student meet the coach before committing?
At Themba Tutors, these considerations are part of our matching process.

Services are pay-as-you-go, with billing typically handled weekly.
CONSISTENT, FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING
We match your availability with the professional’s availability and aim to establish a recurring schedule.

In-person sessions shorter than 60 minutes are not billed as a simple fraction of the hourly rate. A reduced short-session rate may apply. Sessions lasting 60 minutes or longer are prorated based on their length.
INDIVIDUALIZED, ONGOING SUPPORT
Sessions are one-on-one and tailored to the learner’s needs, goals, and pace. We primarily work with students and adults seeking consistent support throughout the school year or over longer periods.
Payment methods
Payment is generally made weekly using common electronic payment methods. Credit cards are accepted only occasionally; when permitted by law, a 3% processing surcharge may apply.
